925 STERLING SILVER
Silver is bright white in colour and best value material and entry point to grillz. It is prone to tarnishing and requires cleaning to maintain its shine. It tarnishes faster in the mouth than on the hand, as saliva is acidic accelerates the process.
Best suited to: multiple teeth, first sets and trialling a design before committing to gold or platinum.
925 parts (AG) / 75 parts copper (CU)
9K Gold Yellow / Rose / White
9K gold is paler and more hard wearing than 18K. It carries less tarnish resistance than 18K and benefits from occasional cleaning.
9K Yellow / 375 parts (AU) / 450 (CU) / 100 (AG) / 75 (ZN)
Rose and white alloys differ in composition.
18k Gold Yellow / Rose / White
18K gold has a rich saturated colour, strong anti-tarnishing properties and excellent durability. The higher gold content gives it a depth of colour that 9K cannot reach.
750 parts (AU) / 125 parts (CU) / 125 parts (AG)
Rose and white alloys differ in composition.
PLATINUM
Platinum is a deep whitish-grey, rich in colour and incredibly durable. It is not prone to tarnishing or discolouring and rather than wearing away it moves over time, developing a soft patina that can be re-polished. It is significantly denser than gold so a platinum piece carries noticeably more weight.
Best suited to: anyone wanting a vibrant white metal with no maintenance, and pieces intended to last generations.
950 parts (PT) / 50 parts (IR)
NATURAL DIAMONDS
Diamonds are the most sought after stone for their brilliance and come in an array of colours and clarities. They are the hardest naturally occuring material and natural diamonds can be anywhere from 1-3 billion years old. We source all colours with white, black and champagne being some of the most popular.
Best suited to: any piece where provenance and rarity matter, and where the stone is the focus.
(C) / Mohs hardness 10
LAB DIAMONDS
Lab grown diamonds are chemically, physically and optically identical to natural diamonds with the difference being origin and time. Rather than forming over billions of years they are grown over several weeks under conditions that replicate the earth's mantle. Available across VS and VVS clarities with a lower cost per carat, they make larger stones and fuller diamond coverage more achievable within certain budgets.
Best suited to: larger stones, full diamond coverage and getting more size or more stones within a set budget.
(C) / Mohs hardness 10
Ruby / Sapphire
Rubies and sapphires are the same mineral: corundum, and are separated only by colour. Rubies are famed for their deep red; whilst sapphires occur in every colour except red, because red corundum is simply called ruby. Second only to diamond in hardness, both wear exceptionally well. Lab options can be sourced in these stones upon request.
Best suited to: colour that needs to survive daily wear and accent stones.
(Al₂O₃) / Mohs hardness 9
EMERALD
Emeralds are found in varying greens, from soft spring tones to deep forest. Unlike corundum, emerald is a naturally included stone where the inclusions often make the stone more appealing. Those inclusions make it more vulnerable to knocks and better suited to protected settings than exposed ones.
Best suited to: rings, pendants and jewellery pieces that are for occasional wear.
(Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈) / Mohs hardness 7.5–8
AUSTRALIAN OPALS
Australian Opals comprise of incredibly unique, iridescent colours and no two stones are alike. The finest Opal examples are found in Australia, who produces 95% of the world’s Opal supply.
Best suited to: one-off statement pieces where the stone leads the design.
(SiO2·nH2O) / Mohs hardness 5.5-6
JADE
Jade covers two distinct stones. Nephrite is the tougher and more common, found in creams, greens and near-black. Jadeite is the rarer of the two and takes a higher polish, ranging from white and lavender through to the deep translucent green known as imperial jade. Each piece is cut and inlaid by hand to sit flush within its setting.
Best suited to: solid blocks of colour and pieces with a carved or sculptural feel.
Nephrite Mohs 6–6.5 / Jadeite Mohs 6.5–7
COLD ENAMEL
Cold enamel is a two-part resin, cured rather than fired. Because it needs no heat it can be applied to finished pieces that already carry set stones and it can be matched to virtually any colour, including tones that cannot be achieved in glass
Best suited to: exact colour matching, bright or unconventional tones and colour applied to already-set pieces.
